Daryl Faust

KWBG 07/08/25

BOONE, Iowa—Daryl LuVerne Faust, 71, of Boone passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Daryl was born on September 16, 1953, in Boone, Iowa, to Charles and Sylvia Faust (nee Christianson). A lifelong resident of Boone, Daryl attended Boone High School, graduating with the Class of 1971.

On October 12, 1973, Daryl married Joan Bass in Boone. The two spent the first few years of their marriage in Carroll, Iowa, moving back to Boone in 1980.

Daryl spent the majority of his career working in the bowling industry. He was the beloved manager of Imperial Lanes for over 30 years, fostering a love of bowling among both youth and adults alike. He was known for starting the Farmers’ League, as well as for throwing New Year’s Eve parties for years. An excellent bowler in his own right, Daryl bowled multiple perfect games and was inducted into the Boone County Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2003. Daryl retired from managing the bowling alley in 2015, having supported the bowling community for more than 33 years. Never one to sit still for long, Daryl then worked at HyVee, where he loved being able to see people he knew at work.

Daryl was passionate about fishing, making an annual trip to Ontario, Canada, every summer for over 50 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends on these trips, and some of his favorite memories were of these adventures: telling stories, telling jokes, and making memories. He was happiest when he was out in his boat, fishing for walleye and northern pike.

Daryl was also an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, living for the years when the teams won more than they lost. Needless to say, the 2016 World Series was a lifetime highlight for Daryl.

Daryl was a practical joker, playing pranks on friends and family; no one was exempt. He loved telling (and repeating) funny stories. He was always one for conversation and never met a stranger he didn’t like. Once you became a friend (this took no time at all), you were anointed with a nickname, which could stick for years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sylvia Faust, and his father-in-law, Jack Bass.

Daryl is survived by his loving wife, Joan; children, Mike (Alison) Faust and Megan (Matt) Rigg; grandchildren, Will and Max Faust and Forrest Rigg; sister, Barb (Alan) Sparks; brother, Paul (Tracy) Faust; nieces and nephews: Corey (Nicole) Faust, Jill (Levi) Smith, Jamie (Jared) Chizek, Kelli (Justus) Harris, Sam Bass, and Wendy Bass; numerous great nieces and nephews as well as extended family.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 am at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone, with a luncheon at the Boone VFW to follow. Private family interment will be at Sheldahl Cemetery in Sheldahl, Iowa.
