BOONE, Iowa—David Ray, age 66 of Boone, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Boone County Hospital.
David Laverne Ray was born on September 26, 1956 in Boone, the son of Paul and Nellie (Swigert) Ray. He attended Boone Schools.
David was united in marriage with Joyce Bregar and from this union was one son, Paul. The couple later divorced.
David loved nature. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching deer in McHose Park and taking his Harley for a cruise. You could find David at HyVee for coffee with the guys or at Saints Ave for dinner. David could be quite talkative especially getting him on the phone with some of his buddies.
David was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Boone; He did not like to miss a Sunday service. He was a kind hearted guy that appreciated the kindness of others, especially treasuring any gifts he received. One of his favorite traditions was give roses to all the moms at church for Mother’s Day.
David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob and Leonard; and sisters, Carolyn and Donna. He is survived by his son, Paul (Ashley) Ray of Boone; grandchildren, Jordan Burgess, Dalton Ray, Leah Ray, Ridge Fox and Ross Cotten; brother, Ron Ray of Boone; sister, Linda Elsberry; nieces and nephews, Sarah, Jeni, Ashley, Troy and Tim; along with many friends.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Boone, with a message from Pastor Kevin Johnson at 4:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
