Dennis Fisher

KWBG 01/06/25

BOONE, Iowa—Dennis Fisher, 79, of Boone, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street in Boone.

Dennis Michael “Fish” Fisher was born to Marvin and Wanda (Heller) Fisher on August 18, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Des Moines Technical School in 1964. Dennis had many jobs before starting a long career as a welder at Quinn Manufacturing in Boone, where he worked until retirement. In his free time, he coached baseball and softball, worked as a DJ, and was an embarrassingly uncoordinated ballet dancer.

On July 30, 1966, he married his “Snookums”, Mary Kay Rusnak, who somehow put up with Dennis for 56 years until her passing in 2022. They lived with their three children in a house on Tama Street, where the family cat, Murray, was last seen walking through wet cement while Dennis was building a garage. Murray’s sudden disappearance remains a mystery.

Dennis enjoyed reading books, playing dice, darts, and cards with friends. He watched old westerns, would go out to eat with anyone willing to let him tag along, and made people shake their heads in exasperation. One of the things that made him the happiest was taking his grandsons to the movies when they were young. Dennis loved his family and was always ready to help whenever it was needed. If he couldn’t help you, he personally knew someone who could, and would give you their number if he could just figure out how to use “this godamn phone”.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his children: David (Sonya) Fisher of Waterford, MI; Kristi (Steve) Henigan of Grimes, IA; and Cindy DeVoogd of Boone; his two brothers: Fred (Lola) Fisher of Surprise, AZ and Dan (Sandi) Heller of Kansas City, MO: fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
