Dennis Knight

BOONE, Iowa—Dennis (Den) Harold Knight, age 73, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 15, at the Boone County Hospital. He was born on December 22, 1951, in Des Moines, the son of Harold and Betty Knight. Den graduated from Boone High School in 1970. He served with the Iowa National Guard from February 1972 to September 1977.

Den married Teresa (Teri) Burnett on April 4, 1975, at the First United Methodist Church, in Boone. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.

Den worked at Sauer-Sundstrand for 39 years, retired August 2011. During his tenure, he advanced from working on the line to team leader. Den enjoyed his vocation and comradery with fellow workers, making many lifelong friendships along the way.

Den and Teri enjoyed traveling, especially their many trips to Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nevada, numerous visits to Meskwaki Casino in Tama, as well as a memorable trip to Alaska in 2014. He was a voracious reader of western novels, especially Louis L’Amour, as well as a history buff. Den and Teri visited numerous Civil War battlefields and he could recite unlimited facts that would stun many. He spent summers gardening and canning and was passionate about researching family genealogy.

Den was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Betty Knight.

He is survived by his wife, Teri, of Boone; brother, Ed Knight (Karen) of Boone; mother and father-in-law Bonnie and Larry (Bud) Furst; sisters-in-law Peggy (J.B.) Mercer, Beth (Errol) Weir; brothers-in-law Kevin (Arlene) Burnett, Mark (Bev) Furst, as well as several nieces and nephews. Den will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mackey Cemetery in Mackey, Iowa following the funeral service.

Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral, 906 7th Street, Boone, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.
