DMACC Professor Inducted Into Golden Manhole Society

KWBG 06/07/19

ANKENY, Iowa—A DMACC Associate Professor of Water and Wastewater Treatment has been inducted into a prestigious organization within the Iowa Water Environment Association (IAWEA).

Steve Moehlmann was nominated and elected by his peers into the Iowa Golden Manhole Society (IAGMS). This award is given annually by the Iowa Water Environment Association in recognition of their commitment and contributions to the organization’s members and their Collection Systems Operations and Maintenance Activities.

“I cannot think of any other person who is so passionate about operator education,” said Des Moines Deputy Public Works Director Adam Smith, who nominated Moehlmann for the award. “Steve has touched the lives of countless current, future and retired wastewater operators. His passion for teaching, along with his unending promotion of the water and wastewater fields, made Steve an excellent candidate for this award.”

Moehlmann’s induction into the Golden Manhole Society was announced during the IAWEA Annual Conference held June 5 and 6 in Altoona.

“Steve obviously does an excellent job teaching the next generation of operators through formal classroom training, but also presents at numerous workshops, meetings and conferences,” Smith said. “He is the consummate professional and brings great credit upon himself and DMACC.”

Moehlmann is retiring from DMACC at the end of the summer term in mid-August.
