Donald E. Snedden

OGDEN, Iowa—Donald E. Snedden, 81, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Hearth Stone Memory Care in Boone, Iowa..

Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa. Pastor Christopher Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with a lunch to be served at Zion Lutheran Church after the Committal Service. A visitation will be at Zion Lutheran Church from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden has been entrusted with arrangements. Donald Eugene Snedden, son of Lloyd and Mollie (Adams) Snedden, was born on January 17, 1942, in Boone, Iowa. Don attended country school south of Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1960. Following his graduation, he attended Iowa State University where he majored in architecture. In 1962, Don began his architecture career at S.V.P.A. & Associates in Des Moines, eventually becoming a partner. After 40 years, he retired in March 2002. In addition to his career as an architect, Don enjoyed farming and raising livestock with his family.

On April 14, 1963, which was Easter Sunday, Don was united in marriage to Delores Helene Jones at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Ankeny for one year, until moving to West Des Moines where they lived for several years. Don always put family first, moving the family back to the farm in the Ogden area in 1972 which remains their current home north of Beaver, commuting for the next 30 years for his architecture career.

Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and fishing. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, and spending time with family. Don was also considered a Jack of all Trades and enjoyed doing many projects for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dee Snedden of Ogden, IA; daughter, Danelle (Brett) Stumbo of West Des Moines, IA; sons, Dave (Holly) Snedden of St. Louis, MO, Darin (Lea) Snedden of Mount Vernon, IA, and Dan Snedden of Ogden, IA; 15 grandchildren, Ryan (Jordan), Austin, Tyler, and Kallyn Stumbo, Mackenzie, Brady (Anna), Dalton, Cale, Mollie, Bryce (Tressa), Noah, Ethan, Lane, Ben and Jake Snedden; two great grandchildren, Camden and Millie Stumbo; two brothers, Robert (Sandra) Snedden and Alan (Camille) Snedden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family to continue God’s work.
