Donald Hart – KWBG Radio

BOONE, Iowa—Donald Wyman Hart, 88, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. He was born on October 7, 1937, in Waverly, Illinois, the son of Wyman and Carrie (Knifley) Hart. Don graduated from Waverly High School and then attended Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

On June 29, 1963, Don married Joyce Madden at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone. Don became a Police Officer for the Boone Police Department. He worked his way up through the ranks and eventually became the Chief of Police. After 30 years in Law Enforcement, he transitioned to a second career in real estate. Don loved this community, his friends, and most of all, his family.

Don was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Boone Rotary Club. Don and Joyce were active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Community Betterment Foundation. Don served on the board of the Woodward Academy. He was also a councilman on the Boone City Council.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hart; his parents, Wyman and Carrie Hart; his parents-in-law, DeWayne and Edna Madden; and his sister-in-law, Linda Anderson.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Greta) Hart; daughter, Angela (Dave) Kolker; grandson, James (Lara) Hart; granddaughter, Sasha Kolker; grandson, Matthew Kolker; grandson, Tyler Kolker; granddaughter, Dani Steger; grandson, Jonathan Steger; great-grandson, Deandre Steger; great-grandson, Jude Hart; brother-in-law, Craig (Cindy) Madden; brother-in-law, Russ Madden (Chris White); sister-in-law, Valerie (Glade) Parker; nephew, Jeremy (Rachel) Anderson; great-nephew, Gerhardt Anderson; and other family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone, with The Reverend Catherine Schroeder officiating. A luncheon will be at Grace Episcopal Church following the memorial service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Private family burial will be at Mackey Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grace Episcopal Church in Boone.
