Doug Macek

BOONE, Iowa—Doug Macek, 66, of Boone, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Boone County Hospital.

Doug was born on July 1, 1958 in Ames, the son of Edward and Doris (Peterson) Macek.

Doug joined the US Navy in 1975, and served in active duty until 1978, and the Naval Reserve until 1981.

Doug united in marriage to Shelley Burma on July 1, 2000. They met while both working at Gates Rubber in Boone, where Doug worked in maintenance. After his work at Gates Rubber, Doug began working at 3M in 2010, and worked there until his retirement in 2023.

Doug spent his free time hunting and fishing at his brother Steve’s ranch in Texas. He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, even raising pheasants for a time period. He also enjoyed playing golf, and going camping with his wife, Shelley.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Doris (Peterson) Macek; and a step-son, John Boyer.

Doug is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shelley Macek of Boone; daughter, Chanda Macek of Texas; two step-daughters, Kari Boyer of Des Moines and Tiffany Thuney of Boone; brother, Steve (Judy) Macek of Texas; four grandchildren, Beau, Wesley, Joe, and Lucas; niece, Taylor Macek and nephew, Ross Macek.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Doug’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
