Drought Conditions Continue to Expand in Iowa

KWBG 10/07/22

DES MOINES, Iowa—With little precipitation recently, the drought conditions continued to expand across Iowa. The most recent map provided by the U.S. Drought Monitor earlier this week, shows over 84% of Iowa is Abnormally Dry. Over 50% of that area is in Moderate Drought, up over 5% from a week ago. This week, over 25% of the area is considered in Severe Drought, up slightly from a week ago. The Extreme Drought area in northwest Iowa remains unchanged.

Boone County is considered 100% Abnormally Dry and now, just over 30% of the county is considered in Moderate Drought found in the northwest corner and the southeast corner of the county.
