DES MOINES, Iowa—Drought conditions across Iowa continued to expand and intensify in the past week. The most recent map from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows the entire state is now considered abnormally dry. Last week the it was listed just under 85%. Increases were noted in the area considered in Moderate Drought Condition with an increase of more than 5%. Severe Drought conditions went up a couple of percentage points and Extreme Drought conditions also went up a couple of percentage points. Extreme Drought continues to be found in northwest Iowa from Sioux City to Algona.
The Boone County data shows little change. Last week, the county was abnormally dry with 30% of the county in Moderate Drought, the northwest corner and the southeast corner. This week, Moderate Drought is at 31%.
