
BOONE, Iowa—Lat week’s U.S. Drought Monitor Map showed an increase in Abnormally Dry conditions, primarily over the Northwest quarter of the state. On May 5th, Moderate and Severe Drought conditions were limited to the Northwest corner of the state, just over 2%. That remained unchanged. However, Abnormally Dry conditions went from about 8.5% to nearly 25.5% last week. Not all the weekend rain will be included in calculating drought conditions this week.
Locally, Boone County remained drought free. April had been the 4th wettest on record with precipitation 3.8″ above normal. On the year, January thru April, also the 4th wettest with precipitation at 4.73″ above normal.
