Edmund Heldt

BOONE, Iowa—Edmund Heldt, 93, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, on Thursday, May 16, 2024. He was born on August 22, 1930, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of M.J. and Ferne (Richards) Heldt.

He was a graduate of Boone High School, class of 1948. He then attended AIB College in Des Moines. Ed enlisted in the Iowa Air National Guard in 1950 and was assigned to the 132nd Fighter/Bomber Wing in Des Moines. During the Korean War, his unit was activated. He served in Louisiana and Bangor, Maine, before being Honorably Discharged in 1953. On October 11, 1953, Ed married Valenette Schoff at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone.

Ed was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a member of the Boone VFW, American Legion, Habitat for Humanity, and the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, M.J. and Ferne Heldt; sister, Gywnn Stumpenhorst; and brother-in-law, Chuck Stumpenhorst.

He is survived by his wife, Valenette Heldt of Boone, IA; sons, Mike (Lynda) Heldt of West Des Moines, IA, and Rick (Teresa) Heldt of Boone, IA; grandchildren: Megan (Joshua) Buckley, Chelsea (Dan) Schramski, and Adam (Mel) Heldt; six step-grandchildren: Alyssa (Paul) Leigh, Amanda (Mat) Johnson, Katlyn (Josh) Hunt, Justin (Abby) Sleeth, Jacob (Laura) Sleeth, and Jayde (Michael) Achenbach; seven great-grandsons, and 21 step-great-grandchildren. Ed was proud to call them all grandchildren!

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, with Pastor Jessten Heimer officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden following the funeral service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone or Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

The Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, Iowa is assisting the family with these arrangements.
