KWBG 02/20/25

BOONE, Iowa—Edward “Ed” Stevens, 77, of Boone, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his home.

Following Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration will be held at a later date.

Ed was born February 8, 1948, in Stratford, the son of Kenneth and Velma (Phipps) Stevens. He attended school in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 1967. After graduation, Ed started farming in the Stratford area and continued to do so until 1984. For the next 23 years, he worked for the Iowa DOT in Ames.

Ed was united in marriage to Janie Peterson on May 12, 1979, in Dayton. They made their home near Stratford until 1989, when they moved to their current farm near Boone. They have two sons, Kenneth and Daniel.

Ed belonged to the West Central Region Cockshutt and CO-OP Club. He loved to attend antique tractor shows, threshing bee’s, flea markets, and dabbled in woodworking, making toys and squirrel feeders. Ed enjoyed most of all, road trips on gravel roads, looking at the landscape.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ed is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Janie Stevens of Boone; two sons, Kenneth (Kelsey) Stevens of Boone and Daniel (Michelle) Stevens of Boone; grandchildren, Taylor (Xander) McClain, Samantha Stevens, Tobi Stevens, Dalton (Ashley Elliott) Stevens, and Talon Stevens; sister, Sally (Dan Hodgson) Johnson of Boone; four nieces and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Ed’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
