BOONE, Iowa—The Federal Emergency Management Agency is conducting a nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS), Wednesday, October 3rd. The test was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 20th, but was postponed because of Hurricane Florence. October 3rd was the backup date for the test.
The Wireless Emergency Alert will take place at 1:18 Central Daylight Time and will be a test of the distribution system for cell phones. It will be followed by a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. Additional information on the system is available from ready.gov.
