BOONE, Iowa—Iowa Senator Joni Ernst made a stop in Boone to learn more about Critical Materials Recycling, a business on the verge of expanding their operation in the Boone Industrial Park. Dan Bina, President and CEO of CMR, gave Ernst a tour of their operation which has been able to secure funding to start using their process to recover rare earth minerals from generators from wind turbines. The company is interested in the magnetic materials and removes the rare earth minerals that make up those magnets. Bina says the company has recovered rare earth minerals from more than a million hard drives and is ready to move their process to a commercial level. Ernst says there are several departments in Washington that will be interested in the process and business and she looks forward to telling the story.
