Fareway Breaks Ground on Major Freezer Expansion

BOONE, Iowa—Fareway Stores, Inc. today announced the official groundbreaking of a significant freezer building expansion at the company’s distribution center in Boone, IA. The new 105,000 square foot facility represents a major investment in Fareway’s long-term growth and to the community it has proudly called home since 1938.

As Fareway continues opening new stores and serving more communities, the Boone campus remains central to ensuring the highest levels of product quality, freshness, and efficiency. The freezer expansion will deliver substantial improvements, by nearly doubling pallet capacity, increasing pallet facings by 33%, improving functionality in dual temperature environments, adding additional dock space, and allowing current freezer space to be repurposed into additional dry storage space.

These upgrades will allow Fareway to better support its growing retail footprint, improve efficiency, and reinforce its commitment to delivering a superior shopping experience. The freezer expansion is also foundational for future investments in technology and automation at the Fareway distribution center.

Construction is now in progress, with Gleeson Constructors and Engineers, LLC set to complete the project by summer 2027.
