Feenstra Announces 2022 Congressional App Challenge

KWBG 08/09/22

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) announced that middle and high school students across Iowa’s 4th Congressional District are invited to participate in the 2022 Congressional App Challenge. This is a nationwide competition that encourages students to learn to code and expose them to the possibilities of a career in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

“As a member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I am passionate about helping middle and high school students in the 4th District pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math,” said Rep. Feenstra. “While countries like China continue to invest in STEM education, we need to equip the next generation with the tools they need to strengthen our technological dominance and economic superiority for decades to come. I strongly encourage Iowa students to participate in this year’s Congressional App Challenge and look forward to reviewing many great submissions.”

This competition allows students to compete with peers by creating and exhibiting their software application (app) for web, PC, tablet, mobile, raspberry Pi, or other platform of their choice. Any programming language is acceptable including, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, “block code,” etc. Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to four.

Students can register online HERE. The deadline to submit an app is November 1, 2022.

The winning app will be announced in December, featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ official website, and displayed in a U.S. Capitol exhibit. To register and find more information, you can visit the Congressional App Challenge website HERE.

All questions can be directed to Rep. Feenstra’s District Director, Emily Schwickerath at Emily.Schwickerath@mail.house.gov or (515) 408-9097.
