Fire Department Releases Details on House Fire, Cause Still Under Investigation

KWBG 07/09/19

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department has released more details on the house fire that occurred in Boone last Wednesday evening.  According to the information released on the departments Facebook page:

At 7:28 pm this past Wednesday the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to 117 S Greene St. for smoke coming from a residence. Command 8-64 returning from a medical call responded with 2 firefighters arriving on scene one and a half minutes after dispatch. Engine 8-62 responded with 1 firefighter arriving approximately 4 minutes after dispatch. Command 8-64 reported smoke coming from the back corner of the house on their arrival and paged all off-duty firefighters to respond. Upon arrival of Engine 8-62, a firefighter stretched an attack line to the back corner and attacked fire from outside, knocking down a majority of the fire. Due to the time of day and the 911 call coming from a bystander, it was assumed that the house might be occupied. Crews stretched an attack line interior and extinguished the rest of the fire while simultaneously searching for occupants.

Truck 8-66 and Rescue 8-67 arrived approximately 10 minutes after dispatch with 7 additional firefighters on callback. Chief 8-60 also responded. Crews completed a search of the house finding an unresponsive dog. With help from Boone PD, firefighters attempted CPR on the dog but were unsuccessful. Thankfully, the homeowner was able to be reached by phone and confirmed that nobody else would have been home. No injuries were reported during the incident. The majority of the fire was contained to a single room, unfortunately the rest of the house sustained heat and smoke damage. The cause remains under investigation.

The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Boone County Communications Center, Boone Police Department, Boone County Ambulance, Boone Area Humane Society and Alliant Energy.
