Fire Fighters Respond to Monday Morning House Fire

KWBG 01/15/24

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department responded to a house fire on the north side of Boone Monday morning. The department has released this information and photo’s on their Facebook page:

At approximately 10:35am on 1/15/24, the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to the 1728 Benton St. for a house fire with dogs trapped. B-shift responded with Engine 8-65 and Chief 8-60 with 4 firefighters and an all-call was paged, calling in all available off-duty Boone firefighters. Truck 8-66 and Command 8-64 responded with 8 additional firefighters. Due to the extreme cold and the anticipated problems that it would bring, the Ogden Fire Department was also requested with an Engine bringing 4 additional firefighters.

Engine 8-65 arrived and immediately stretched a hoseline into the building both for fire attack and to search for the dogs. Callback firefighters stretched a second hoseline to assist the first. Fortunately, all occupants were able to escape the home safely, however, 2 dogs perished in the fire. Several other dogs and a turtle were saved. There were no injuries to any of the human occupants or emergency responders. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Ogden Fire Department, Boone County Communications Center, Boone Police Department, Boone County Ambulance and Alliant Energy.
