BOONE, Iowa—Firefighters from the Boone Fire Department and several neighboring departments had their hands full with a house fire east of Boone Wednesday afternoon. The department released this information on social media:
At approximately 12:42PM today, the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to 1952 195th St. for a house, garage and field on fire. Engine 8-65 and Chief 8-60 responded with 4 firefighters and the Fire Chief. An all-call was requested bringing Engine 8-61, Tanker 8-63 and Attack 8-68 to the scene with 4 additional firefighters. Additional help was requested from the Ogden, Gilbert, Story City and Stanhope Fire Departments bringing additional manpower, tankers, and brush trucks.
On arrival, a house with attached garage was well involved with fire having spread to an adjacent field. The fire was fed heavily by 30mph winds with 45mph gusts blowing and pushing fire through the remainder of the residence. Due to the extent of the damage to the structure on arrival, it was deemed unsafe for firefighters to attempt extinguishment from the interior. Firefighters began defensively attacking the fire from the exterior, preventing any further extension to surrounding buildings or property. The field fire was confined by a natural fire break and was brought under control by mutual aid resources on their arrival.
The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Ogden Fire Department, Gilbert Fire Department, Stanhope Fire Department and Story City Fire Department as well as the Boone County Communications Center, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Emergency Management, Boone County Ambulance and Midland Power.
4 individuals were displaced from the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
