Fly Iowa Returns to Boone August 3rd

KWBG 07/30/19

BOONE, Iowa—Fly Iowa is coming to the Boone Municipal Airport Saturday, August 3rd from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Fly Iowa is a program of the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group that travels across the state and is hosted by local and regional airports.  The event was last held at the Boone Municipal Airport in 1994.

This year’s event has a fun day planned with something for everybody and kicks off with a “Fly-In” pancake breakfast at the National Guard Armory from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with proceeds supporting the event.  Fly Iowa 2019 also features a “kidzone” with a climbing wall, aviation simulation software and a “make your own balsa wood airplane” booth.  The Vendor area will showcase a number of local businesses and also include food trucks serving meals from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There will even be an opportunity to take a ride over the city of Boone and the Des Moines River Valley with Ride the Sky Helicopters.

Fly Iowa attracts many pilots and their families from across the state and Midwest and their planes become part of the static aviation display that also includes the National Guard’s Blackhawk, Lakota and Chinook helicopters which will allow visitors to climb inside and check out the hardware.   Of course, the big attraction is the airshow that gets started around Noon.  With national acts like Julie Clark and her amazing T-34 Mentor, the P51C Mustang Redtail, and the stunt aerobatics of the Vanguard Squadron there are a few other surprises in store as well.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to place in the spectator area and view the show.

There is no admission fee to attend Fly Iowa and the site boasts plenty of hard surface parking.
