Gladys Walters

OGDEN, Iowa—Gladys Walters, age 84, of Ogden and formerly of Boone, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Gladys D. Robertson was born on January 23, 1938, the daughter of Harvey J. and Elsie M. (Eccles) Robertson in Belmond, IA. She attended Belmond High School.

Gladys was united in marriage with Marvin James Walters on December 4, 1955 at Grandpa Bentley’s house in Boone. From this union were three children, James, Judy and Jerry.

Gladys was a member of the Central Christian Church in Boone and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Gladys and Marvin square danced in their early years of marriage, enjoyed going camping and riding motorcycles. They took a yearly trip to Sturgis until Marvin passed away in 1991. Gladys enjoyed cross stitching, ceramics and collecting clowns. She would stay up all night playing cards, especially fond of poker. Gladys loved baking, always having an abundance of goodies during Christmas.

Gladys worked at Archway Cookies and later Iowa State University as a custodian until her retirement shortly after Marvin passed away.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; all eleven siblings; and son-in-law, Dave Keel. She is survived by her sons, James M. Walters and Jerry (Eva) Walters, all of Boone; daughter, Judy Keel of Ogden; grandchildren, Thomas Keel, Amy (Eugene) Laube, Sarah Wiese, Raenee (Chris) Nelson and Jacob Walters; great-grandchildren, Trevor Keel, Elizabeth, Alec, Nicholas and Kyle Laube, Cooper Wiese and Grant and Brock Traetow; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Central Christian Church in Boone. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery, north of Boone.

Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets is in charge of arrangements.
