Gloria Ann Capps

KWBG 12/29/25

BOONE, Iowa—Gloria Ann Capps, age 79, of Boone, passed away at home on Friday, December 26, 2025.

Gloria was born on March 6, 1946 in Anamosa, the daughter of Rollo and Gloria (McGuire) Lindley. From ages two to nine, Gloria and her parents lived on her Grandma and Grandpa McGuire’s farm in Center Junction.

She graduated from Anamosa Community School in 1964, where she was the valedictorian. She went on to attend two and a half years at State College of Iowa, Cedar Falls (now known as University of Northern Iowa). She was a past Grand Chaplain in the Iowa Order of the Rainbow for Girls in 1965.

Gloria was united in marriage to Gary Taylor Capps on December 17, 1966. From this union, three children were born- Laurel, Philip, and Michelle.

She was an entrepreneur, and served as an Avon Lady for thirty years in the community. Gloria served her community in other ways, including being a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Magi Chapter (139 in Boone) and being a Life Member of the Polk City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 361. She was also active serving the youth in the Cub Scouts and 4H. She loved her church, her flower gardens, her children, and the people in her community.

Gloria touched many lives at the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church. She was active in Sunday School, Bible School, Kid’s Club, and youth groups. Gloria was involved in the United Methodist Women, prayer group, the choir, and a singing trio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Gary Capps; her daughter, Laurel Capps; and brother, Kevin Lindley.

Gloria is survived by her children, Philip (Ginger) Capps and Michelle (Robert) Burke; grandchildren, Kaylee (Logan) Garcia, Wesley Capps, Paul Burke, and Rochelle Burke; brother, Owen (Kim) Lindley; sister-in-law Faith Lindley; four nieces, Stacy, Stephanie, April, and Morgan; and numerous other family members.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Suncrest Hospice.

Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm, at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street Boone. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Pilot Mound United Methodist Church, 210 3rd Street Pilot Mound. The service will be recorded and later uploaded to our website and can be viewed on Gloria’s Tribute Wall.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Gloria’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
