Madelyn Grothus claimed the individual title, and the Madrid girls cross country team finished second overall Thursday, October 9, at the South Hamilton Invitational, held at the Jewell Golf and Country Club.
Grothus led the way, finishing first in 19:33.43.
Katelyn Brandhorst followed with a 5th-place finish in 20:14.13, and Hannah Brandhorst placed 13th in 21:25.32.
Rounding out the scoring were Adelyn White (23:01.77) and Makayla Mullenbach (23:59.08).
Madrid’s girls scored 86 points, placing second behind West Marshall, who won the meet with 59.
On the boys side, Madrid finished 8th overall with 167 points, while Lynnville-Sully took the team title with 74.
Cavin Pehl led the Tigers with a 10th-place finish in 18:08.74, followed by Hudson White in 14th at 18:25.10.
Kris Petersen placed 23rd in 19:11.19, with Aiden Titus (21:16.85) and Blane Schneider (22:16.14) completing the team’s scoring.
Madrid will compete in the West Central Activities Conference meet on Thursday, October 16, at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School, with races beginning at 5 p.m.
