Hamman Announces Candidacy for Mayor

KWBG 06/07/23

BOONE, Iowa—There are now two candidates seeking to be elected Mayor of Boone. Boone Mayor John Slight announced late last year that he would not seek re-election and it was time to step aside. Third Ward Council Member Elijah Stines announced he would be running for Mayor and has had an active campaign for several months. Denny Hamman has announced that he also will be on the ballot for Mayor. He has been attending council meetings for several months learning about city business, operations and plans. Hamman made his announcement on his Denny Hamman for Mayor Facebook page:

I am proud to announce my candidacy to run for Boone Mayor this November.

I have been a lifelong resident of Boone and raised my family here with my wife Carol Renae for 48 years, our 2 kids and now 4 grandkids. I have owned and worked in local businesses here for decades and my family is beginning its 49th year in a family-owned business right here in Boone to this day. I have seen the businesses, technology, and people of our community change over the years, but one thing has remained constant, my pride in our hometown. Can we do things better? Absolutely and I look forward to those discussions in the months ahead. But I have also found in my years of volunteer service to the community that the ability to make the hard calls when the time comes and doing it with some humor to show that we are all in this together can go a long way.

For the past 13 years I have served as a citizen on the City Civil Service Commission helping find the best and brightest to serve our Police and Fire Departments. But this will be the first time I have run for elected public office and even with my conservative fiscal views on taxes that still means we can invest with good judgment for future generations without falling behind. It is time for new leadership, and I want to not only work with our community volunteer groups but my fellow elected officials at the school district, county, hospital, state, and federal levels. The city of Boone cannot do it alone and to get the job done requires shared goals and contributions.

Please share with your friends and family and I promise there will be more information to come on my future vision and showcasing my pride in our hometown. I look forward to serving the citizens of Boone as your next mayor!

Denny

The November Election will be held November 7th and will be combined election for municipalities and school boards.
