BOONE, Iowa—Harold Dean Blaskey, age 86, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He was born April 25, 1939, in Ogden, Iowa, to Andrew and Ruby Blaskey (Cunningham). He grew up in the Ogden and Boone area and graduated from Boone High School in 1958.
Harold married Sharon Loehr on September 17, 1961. Together they were blessed with four children: Pamela, Deborah, Curtis, and Nicole, and six grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He proudly served in the Iowa National Guard from 1957 to 1963. Harold had a strong work ethic throughout his life, beginning with delivering the Boone News Republican as a young man. He worked for Dean Snyder Construction, Quinn Machine and Foundry Corporation for 16 years, and the City of Boone for 26 years.
Harold had many hobbies and interests, including bowling, fishing, doing puzzles, playing bingo, and playing card games with friends. He also enjoyed operating his small lawn-mowing business (23 residential properties and 2 radio tower properties). He enjoyed many family vacations, including special adventures with Deb and Jim.
Harold was preceded in death by his grandson, Tanner Houseman; his brother and sister-in-law, Edward (Ellen) Blaskey; his brother, Don Sifrit; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Blaskey of Boone; his children, Pamela (Tom) Farris of Des Moines, Deborah (Jim) Thirkelson of Saint Cloud, FL, Curtis (Lori) Blaskey of Des Moines, and Nicole Houseman of Hudson, FL; five grandchildren: Jason Blaskey of Holstein, IA; Sierra and Jacob Blaskey of Des Moines, IA; Cole Houseman of Madrid, IA; and Ethan Houseman of Buffalo, WY; his sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and George Davis of Pomeroy; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion.
