Healy Begins Duties as Director for Boone County Conservation

BOONE, Iowa—This month, the Boone County Board of Supervisors approved the hiring of Katie Healy to be the new Boone County Conservation Executive Director. She officially took over the position this week. The Boone County Conservation Board release was made on their Facebook page.

The Boone County Conservation Board is pleased to announce and congratulate Katie Healy on her selection as its new executive director effective November 28th.

Healy is a graduate of Iowa State University with a B.S. in Forestry and for the past five years has been both the Boone County Naturalist and a Park Ranger.

She is certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and is a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Healy served as interim executive director for the past four months following the departure of Tanner Scheuermann, who accepted the same position in neighboring Greene County.

Healy will direct a staff of four full-time and six seasonal part-time employees that together manage approximately 1,300 acres across Boone County. The Conservation Board managed properties are Don Williams Recreation Area, Swede Point Park, Dickcissel Park, J. Carlson Wildlife Area, Mabaska, Buffalo Grove, Rhoades Acres, Beaver Creek Wildlife Area, Grant’s Woods and eight miles of the High Trestle Trail, a recreation corridor in southern Boone County.

Her goas in this new position of leadership include expansion of camping opportunities, advancing the education component of conservation programming, working through challenges facing the Don Williams Golf Course and exploring the addition of a Nature Center, which is part of the Board’s current strategic plan. Healy shared, “I greatly appreciate this opportunity and look forward to advancing excellence in all that we do at the Boone County Conservation Board.”

A native of Newton, Katie enjoys her two dogs, two cats and horse boarded within driving distance. She is engaged to be married in September, and along with her fiancé is seeking to purchase an acreage in Boone County to bring their animals together.
