BOONE, Iowa—With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Helen Marie Carlson, our loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. On April 1, 2021, at the age of 87 years, she passed away peacefully with her husband and children by her side.
Helen was born on August 18, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa. She then moved to Boone, Iowa with her parents Charles and Vesta Diehl. Helen met her husband Dean Carlson while roller skating. They were married on November 2, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone. They resided on the Carlson family farm for the last 69 years, rarely spending a night apart.
Helen was a member of the Mackey United Methodist Church where she was the pianist for 40 or more years. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, baking, bird watching, flower gardening, Sunday afternoon drives, and playing with the dogs.
Helen, a quiet and gentle person lived her life as an example of, Ephesians 4:32 – “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
She is the beloved mother of Richard (Sharon) Carlson, Terry (Bill) Wilson, and Reuben (Jan) Carlson. She is the grandmother of Sarah (Jeff), Matthew (Kelly), Hannah (Alex), Rebekah (Matthew), Michele (Jason), John, Eric, Joshua, Joseph, and Daniel. She is also Great-grandmother to Maria, Ana, Matthew, Jonathan, Ila, Violet, Hadley, Harper, Mya, Addi, Bristol, Noah, and Madelyn. She is preceded in death by her infant son Scott Allen Carlson and her parents Charles and Vesta Diehl. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
