Historical Society Re-Opens 2nd Floor, Holds Ribbon Cutting

KWBG 08/30/24

BOONE, Iowa—President of the Boone County Historical Society Board of Directors, Sue Kruckenberg, welcomed volunteers and guests to the Historical Center Thursday for the much awaiting ribbon cutting ceremony, re-opening the 2nd floor with a new look. The Kate Shelley display is relocated and served as the back drop for the ribbon cutting. A display for the Ledges State Park is on the 2nd floor and a new display about Agriculture in Boone County is still being established. Kruckenberg told those in attendance the board has a ten year plan for the 2nd floor, but with a bequest from Wayne Erickson, were able to complete the project in three years and about 20,000 volunteer hours.

The Historical Society Board also used the event to recognize Erickson by naming the lower level community room in his honor, the Wayne B. Erickson Community Room and the first floor research room in honor of Larry Adams, long time member of the Historical Society and Board Member.

Sue Kruckenberg cuts the ribbon in front of the Kate Shelley display, surrounded by Board Members, volunteers and supporters.

The 2nd floor will be open to all visitors. Members have free admittance and it’s only $5 for non-members. The Historical Center is open Thursday-Saturday 10am to 2pm.
