The Boone softball team delivered a comeback win Saturday, July 12, edging Storm Lake, 5-4, in a Class 4A Region 3 game at Storm Lake to keep its postseason dreams alive.
After falling behind, 1-0, in the first inning, Boone chipped away with single runs in the third and fourth before scoring three in the fifth.
Storm Lake mounted a late rally with three runs in the sixth, but Boone held on behind a great performance from senior pitcher Carly Busch, who struck out 11 in a complete game victory.
Offensively, Kaylee Kuehl led the charge with three hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
Avery Howie had a three-run home run as part of a two-hit night.
Brooke Weisbrod and Claire Hardinger each added two hits, while Sydney Adams, Hailee Bingham, and Carly Busch also contributed at the plate.
Boone improved to 21-13, while Storm Lake’s strong season ended at 25-7.
Next up, Boone faces a familiar foe in North Polk (33-5) on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at North Polk High School in Alleman.
The two teams met twice during Raccoon River Conference play earlier this season, with North Polk winning both matchups—5-2 and 10-0.
