IMCA Super Nationals Annual Economic Impact to the State of Iowa, $60M

BOONE, Iowa—The United States Motorsports Association (USMA) announced today the results of a new independent study conducted by the USMA and Robert Dunn, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Economics, and Leslie Dunn Ph.D., Associate Professor of Economics at Washington & Jefferson College.  The study measured the economic impacts of the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) annual Super Nationals event in Boone, Iowa.  The report concluded the Super Nationals produces $60 million annually in economic benefits throughout the region and across the State of Iowa.

The USMA and Researchers at Washington & Jefferson College called the event a “unique perfect storm of travel and tourism”.  Over 900 race teams traveling from 23-different States make the annual trek to Boone, Iowa, where they nearly double Boone’s total population for 10-days.  The study highlights both the economic and socio-economic impacts the IMCA Super Nationals event has on Boone, the surrounding region, and the State of Iowa.

Highlights of the new study include:

  • Overall economic impact annually – $60,720,031.

  • 609 local jobs attributable to the Super Nationals event.

  • $16,786,757 Increase in direct and indirect local area earnings. 

  • Over 900 race teams traveled to Boone, Iowa from 23 different States. 

  • 63% of racers visited non-racing tourist destinations in Iowa during their travels. 

  • In one week, IMCA Super Nationals provides equivalent economic value to an entire season of Iowa State Football (located a few miles from the Super Nationals). 

Boone Speedway will be hosting the 40th Annual IMCA Super Nationals from Sept. 5th thru Sept. 10th, 2022.
