BOONE, Iowa—The Iowa Transportation Commission this week approved $6.2 million for seven rail infrastructure and related rail development projects, including projects for the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad. The BSVRR secured a loan for over $551,000. Travis Stevenson, General Manager, of the BSVRR, says the loan is a no-interest loan with a 10-year term. He says the funding will be used to rehabilitate the railroad track from Harrison Street to Tama Street. The planned work will not include any street crossing work.
Stevenson says the expansion part of the funding is to build a new 10-car siding in the industrial park to handle the increased traffic from our customers in the Boone Industrial Park. The Boone and Scenic Valley provides rail access to both PDM and AgCertain to the Union Pacific Railroad.
The expansion for customers in the Industrial Park ties in with possible economic development opportunities for the City of Boone.
