Iowa Finance Authority Awards Funds for Habitat for Humanity Projects, Including the Heart of Iowa Humanity Project in Ogden

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) Board of Directors recently awarded a total of nearly $82,000 in State Housing Trust Fund grants to Siouxland Habitat for Humanity and Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity to support the construction of two single-family homes in Rock Valley and Odgen. The funding is made available through the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based Housing program.  

“IFA’s long-standing partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates under the Project-Based Housing Program has assisted more than 100 Iowa families in achieving their dreams of homeownership,” said IFA Director Debi Durham. “The awards announced today will assist two families in not only opening the door to homeownership but also to upward economic mobility, wealth creation and pride of ownership.” 

Siouxland Habitat for Humanity, Rock Valley – $50,000 

Siouxland Habitat for Humanity will use the $50,000 State Housing Trust Fund grant to assist in the construction of a single-family home on a vacant lot in Rock Valley. 

Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, Ogden – $31,972 

Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity will use the $31,972 State Housing Trust Fund grant to assist in the construction of a single-family home on a vacant infill lot in Ogden.  

Both homes will be sold to income-qualified homebuyers who will receive financial, home repair, homeownership and foreclosure prevention education and must also complete the required sweat equity hours prior to closing on the homes. 

“The State Housing Trust Fund has been instrumental in assisting Habitat for Humanity affiliates help dozens of Iowa families realize the dream of homeownership,” said Lisa Houser, Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of Iowa. “Today’s awards signify more than just financial support, they represent a commitment to sustainable homeownership opportunities for Iowans, fostering generational wealth and thriving families and neighborhoods for many years to come.”  

The State Housing Trust Fund has awarded more than $123 million in funding and has assisted more than 39,000 affordable housing units since the program’s inception in 2003. These awards have leveraged an additional $180.9 million or $1.46 in other resources for every dollar of State Housing Trust Fund funding.
