ISU students impacting central IA COVID-19 numbers

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 573 new cases of COVID-19, a marked decrease from the 832 positive coronavirus tests reported twenty-four hours earlier.  Iowa has now had over 52,000 cases of COVID-19 and 973 Iowans have died of coronavirus:  9 on Saturday, with one of those in Polk County, and 2 in Sunday’s update.  Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon, 209 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 10,967; 200 this weekend in Story for 1,397, as Iowa State University tests students coming back on campus; 43 in Dallas for 1,993; 20 in Webster for 883 there; 4 in Hamilton for 259; none in Greene, which holds steady at 42; and 15 in Boone County for 291 overall.  Statewide, there are 271 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, an increase of 10 from Saturday, but more than 40,500 Iowans have recovered, including 189 in Boone County.  For the 1 in 6 Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has gone up slightly, to 9.4%.
