Jean Guenther

BOONE, Iowa—On January 30, 2023, Jean Guenther, passed away peacefully at Arrowhead Senior Living in Osage Beach, MO with her family at her side, after a several-year battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. Jean was 76 years old.

Jean Helen Buss was born on June 29, 1946, in Boone, IA, the daughter of Everett and Helen (Warner) Buss. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1964.

On October 17, 1964, Jean was united in marriage with William J. Guenther at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. From this union, they were blessed with two children, Jennifer and William.

When Jean’s children were young, she was a “stay at home mom” as she cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. Later, she had a 25 plus year career as a personal banker at Hawkeye Federal Savings Bank, which later became Commercial Federal Savings Bank. She retired in 2013. Following retirement, Jean and Bill moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

Jean was very active in her children and grandchildren’s lives; she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean enjoyed a good game of Bridge, loved to travel, dance, and was well known for her baking skills.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Gretchen (Buss) Whitmer.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill of Gravois Mills, MO; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Paris of Prosper, TX; son, Bill (Jill) Guenther of Elkhorn, NE; four grandchildren, Molly Jean (Dallas) Hoff, Jacob Paris (Fiancé, Lexi Sebghati), William Max Guenther (Emily Schultz), and Grant Guenther; two great-grandchildren, Hudson Hoff and William Wells Guenther. Also, her brother, Dan (Sandy) Buss of Boone.

A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Sacred Heart Church located at Twelfth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held in the Fitzgerald Hall at Sacred Heart Church, immediately following the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets is in charge of arrangements.
