Kathleen Boersma, 83, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Kathleen “Kathy” R. (Deal) Boersma, age 83, of Boone, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at her home.

Kathy was born December 29, 1942, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Bud and Viv (Snyder) Deal. She attended school in Boone and graduated with the Class of 1961.

Kathy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry “Butch” Boersma, on March 18, 1962. To this union they were blessed with two daughters, Kelle and Chris. They made their home in Boone where Kathy worked at Archway. In 1994, Kathy and Butch purchased and moved to Fraser and ran the Damn Site Restaurant that was home of the “Big Damn Sandwich”, a tenderloin that was as big as the plate. KCCI even did a Karlin Covers Central Iowa story on them.

For over 20+ years they were snowbirds and wintered in Texas, where they met so many wonderful people. When they returned in the Spring, they managed the kitchen at the Don Williams Golf Course.

Her favorite activities through the years were crocheting, cooking, bowling, coloring and camping. When the girls were little, they camped almost every weekend of the summer with the camp club, “The Weekend Wanderers”, going all over the state.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Larry “Butch” Boersma on January 30, 2026; her parents, Bud and Viv Deal; in-laws, Casey and Naomi Boersma; and her son-in-law, Bobby E. Duncan.

Kathy is survived by her daughters, Kelle Cook and Chris Duncan; grandchildren, Nicole Cook (Nate DeShong), Garrett (Katelyn) Cook, Becca Duncan, Brooke (John) Antol; great-grandchildren; Elias, Edison, Elliott, Anthony, Cora and Callum; two sisters, Donna (James) Fyfe and Sheila Gibbons (Dave Madden); two brothers, Ted (Lynn) Deal and Donnie (Dawn) Deal; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, with Ted Deal officiating. Visitation will be held for an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, to use at their discretion.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Kathy’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
