Kevin Richard Lindahl

KWBG 08/16/21

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 61 year old Kevin Richard Lindahl of Bedford, Iowa and formerly of Boone, Iowa. He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Kevin was born on August 3, 1960 in Boone, to Richard Warren Lindahl and Janet Maas. They later divorced. Kevin was then adopted by Rita (Carlson) Lindahl.

He graduated from Boone High School in 1979 and married Melanie (Camp) Lindahl in 1982. They had twin sons born on Christmas Day, named Christopher and Nicholas. Kevin and Melanie later divorced, but remained friends and stayed in touch.

Kevin was employed at Mary Greeley Medical Center delivering meals to patients. He was also employed at 3M Company and Hy-Vee.

He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. He loved all things nature. He loved spending time near the “Big Eddy” at the Des Moines River in rural Boone. He also loved spending time at Don Williams exploring the water for frogs, snakes, and other creatures. He collected rocks and was a great teacher to his little sister Kia whom he taught to not fear snakes and mice and certain insects. She carried that on to her adult life, teaching her own children not to fear these creatures.

Kevin also loved animals. He had a mule that he trained himself and showed at the Boone County Fair. He loved dogs and especially cats. Recently he adopted two feral cats at his home in Bedford. His allergies to animals never stopped him from loving them.

Once his system adjusted to them, he was fine.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father Richard Warren Lindahl; his brother-in-law, Michael P. Pounds; his paternal grandparents, Richard Waldorf and Ethlyn (Alm) Lindahl; maternal grandparents, Richard and Valeria Carlson, and Clarence and Mabel Maas.

Kevin leaves behind his twin sons, Christopher Warren Lindahl of Boone, and Nicholas Dewayne (Kelsey) Lindahl of Huxley; mother Rita Lindahl of Boone; his sisters: Julie (the late Michael) Pounds, Brenda (Eddie) Hellyer, Kia (Scott) Parrish, Pamela (Keith) McDonald all of Boone; his brothers:  Richard P. Bertnick of Walton, KY, and David M. Bertnick of Milwaukee, WI; his biological mother, Janet (Randy) Reutter of Boone; many nieces and nephews; and scores of friends. Kevin was loved by all who knew him.

A celebration of life is planned for Kevin on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Boone Pioneer Center on Story Street, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion. Condolences may be directed to “The Lindahl Family” c/o Rita Lindahl, 523 S. Main, Boone, IA 50036.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Taylor County DHS for their care and concern, (Gayla and Brenda) and to the staff at the University of Iowa IVCU, especially Dr. Marcus Barlow. You made Kevin’s transition so much easier for the family to cope with.

Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.schroederfuneral.com.
