Boone softball team delivered a pair of commanding shutout victories over Raccoon River Conference opponent Carroll Friday, June 27, sweeping the doubleheader with scores of 20-0 and 11-0.
Boone 20, Carroll 0
In Game 1, the Toreadors erupted for 19 runs across the second and third innings.
Avery Howie led the offensive onslaught with 3 hits and a stolen base, while Halle Bailey added 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Claire Hardinger and Sydney Adams each drove in 2 runs, and Carly Busch struck out 8 in a complete game shutout.
Carroll 11, Boone 0
Game 2 saw more of the same, with Boone scoring in every inning.
Kaylee Kuehl crushed a home run as part of a 2-hit, 2-RBI performance, and Bailey added another 3 RBIs.
Busch scored 3 times, and Kuehl pitched a complete game shutout with 5 strikeouts.
Boone Classic
Boone faced West Des Moines Dowling Catholic to open the Boone Classic Saturday, June 28, falling 14-0.
But the Toreadors bounced back in Game 2 with a convincing 10-2 win over Humboldt.
In the win, Brooke Weisbrod had 2 doubles and 2 RBIs, while Kuehl continued her hot streak with 3 RBIs and a double.
Howie and Hardinger each had 2 hits, and Weisbrod struck out 7 in a complete game victory.
Boone 5, Gilbert 2
Boone picked up a conference win Monday morning, defeating Gilbert 5-2 in a game that resumed after being suspended due to rain.
Claire Hardinger delivered a standout performance at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs, and a run scored.
Shannon Jenkins added two hits and scored twice, while Hailee Bingham chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Weisbrod struck out two in a complete game victory.
Boone now sits at 16-10 overall and 6-6 in the conference.
They’ll look to keep the momentum going as they host Ballard (6-19 overall, 2-9 conference) tomorrow morning before heading to Nevada (3-15) tomorrow afternoon
