BOONE, Iowa—Campaigning at the local level has already begun for the Special Election on March 21st which will decide who the next Boone County Sheriff will be and who will be selected to fill a vacancy on the Boone City Council. Andrew Godzicki was appointed Sheriff the beginning of the year by the Boone County Supervisors and Deputy Cory Rose will face off in the Sheriff’s race. The election is a result of a public petition. The Boone City Council had voted to call a Special Election to fill the vacancy created with the resignation of Steven Ray the end of December. Four candidates have filed for that ballot, Deann Wood-Kluss, Patrick A. Shaw, Kyle D Angstrom and Robert Alan Lay.

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Hospital Board of Trustee have voted to order two, new ambulances. The action was part of the meeting of the Trustee’s last Thursday. The newest ambulance was added to the fleet in 2019 and already has 131,000 miles. The oldest ambulance was added to the fleet in 2003 and has surpassed 400,000 miles. Mark Addy, Director of Ambulance Services told Trustees that it’s getting to be very costly maintaining the existing fleet. The Boone Fire Department uses the 2003 model as the third crew ambulance provider and usually makes multiple trips each week. The expected cost is $560,000 and delivery could be anywhere from 12-to-18 months.

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Water Environment Station in McHose Park reported 1.71″ of rain at 8:00 a.m. Monday, following heavy rainfall and thunderstorms overnight. Total moisture is near 3.1″ for the month of February, more than double the normal amount.
