KWBG Senior Spotlight: Kinnick Grimm, Madrid Senior

Joining us on our senior spotlight on KWBG, get a chance to talk to Madrid senior, Kenneth Grimm is Kenneth busy with obviously football activities homecoming week. Goodness, Kenneth, like it just went from summer to all of a sudden senior year. How's the last three weeks been so far? You know, they've been, they've been good. Kind of just going through classes. Don't have, don't have too many classes this year since my senior year. Kind of loaded up my first three years. So it's pretty nice to have. What, what's the course load look like then? What, like, how many are you taking right now? Some days it's only, some days it's four, some days it's five. Kind of taking a lot of DMACC here. Okay. Yeah, kind of just looking towards the future. Obviously taking a lot of classes that I think I'll be going into majoring into, so. Well, man, I was gonna say, Kenneth right off the bat then I can, I usually we talk about college and other stuff later, but I mean, you're already kind of into it. So, so tell me what, what, what, do the future plans look like, Kenneth? You got some plans? Yeah, I do. I've talked a lot with my parents about it, but you know, I want to play, I want to play sports in college, specifically football, but um, and then, you know, I want to go into entrepreneurship or some kind of business class, like majoring into some of that. And then, you know, my dad runs a business down here called Grims Greenscapes. And planning on hopefully taking over that, but you know, if all goes wrong, I'll still have a business major. So that's a good thing. Cool. Now, is this something that you definitely want to work for yourself, Kenneth? Or would you, could you see maybe working for somebody else? Um, you know, I've kind of 50-50ed it. I mean, I'm kind of both ways, like, just kind of where my past takes me. I mean, if I would have to work for somebody else, and I would, but you know, the ideal situation would probably be on me, you know, people working for me, but you know, if it all comes down to it and I have to work for somebody else, that's perfect fine too, so. Here's the best thing. As long as, as long as the money's rolling in, so. Kenneth, I was going to say, here's the best thing. You don't got to come up with that answer today. How about that? That's the best thing for it. Yeah. Got a little time to wait. Let's wait for the future answer, yeah. A hundred percent, a hundred. That's for future, Kenneth. That's future, Kenneth's problem. Yeah. Present, Kenneth, yeah. I try not to think about that too much. Let future, Kenneth, worry about that. Present, Kenneth, he's okay with that, so. Exactly. I know we've got a little injury going on right now, Kenneth, so that's kind of hurting the football season so far. What have you been able to do, though, kind of from the sidelines to help out? You know, obviously being a captain this year and leading the team with a bunch of my other senior friends, I mean, you kind of just got to stick in there, do the same roles that you basically could do without wasting your time. You basically could do without with or being out with or with not being injured, so kind of just sticking in there in the team and keeping them up with it, keeping them on the right mindset and tracked, like thinking the same goal every single week, one and all, and kind of just the same thing. I mean, it's tough, obviously, but kind of just got to stick there with the team and be there for the guys. No, absolutely you do. And you can do a whole lot from the sideline, Kenneth, and I've heard that you've been doing a nice job of that. I know you want to make the tackles, make the catches, run the kick returns, punt returns, but boy, you can be helpful from the sideline, can't you? Yeah, I mean, I try my best to try to get in there as a huddle during breaks and uplift guys, and the guys that are all right in my position, I kind of give them a few pointers here and there, like me being a veteran, and we have a sophomore corner and like DB, and helping those guys teach them up and keeping them on the right mindset and stuff, because obviously coaches can be a little tough sometimes, and kind of just giving that other perspective view. Well, Kenneth, and you're on the field, I mean, nothing against the coaches, they have a ton of experience and they see stuff, but I mean, you're right there, so that's awesome that you're able to help these kids, because let's be honest, Kenneth, someday they're gonna maybe be in that spot. No, yeah, for sure. I mean, I'm definitely more than grateful to be in the position I am. Besides being hurt, obviously, but being able to teach the kids and coaching them up, that's definitely a big thing. Maybe that's in the future, Kenneth. I mean, I know the business, there's nothing wrong with that, but maybe if you have a little free time, you can help out the local high school wherever you may be. Yeah, no, I've actually thought about it. Me and my friend have actually, we've talked about it with each other and talked about it with our coaches too. I mean, yeah, who knows if that's where my career path takes me, it does, so, I mean, it doesn't seem like too bad of a thing. I mean, I don't mind coaching little kids too and at like football camps and stuff, so. And it keeps you in the sport. Yeah, exactly. It's definitely something not off the table, so it's something I could always mention going back to. Absolutely, you could, absolutely. All right, so I know homecoming week is going on this week. I know you had Labor Day weekend, which I know is huge and mattered as well, but give me a couple other things. Kenneth, what are some other things you look forward to or are looking forward to, I should say, your senior year? Um, well, I mean, if we're thinking about this week in the Iowa State game, you know, big, big Iowa fan. Wait a minute, wait, hold on, Kenneth. You're a big Iowa fan? Yeah, who could've known? I would never, okay, I'm stunned, but I'm kidding, obviously. But so, you Chalk-Eye fans since birth, literally, huh? No, yeah, I mean, my dad, he had season tickets right as I was a baby, I mean, I was going to, I mean, I've probably been there over a hundred games. Oh, wow. So, yeah, we, I go to every single home game I can. I mean, you know, it's obviously harder now that I'm in high school football, but you know, I still make it down there and make it into that amazing Kenneth Stadium and live it out, but that's definitely a big thing. I'm looking forward to the Iowa State game. Hopefully we can handle Iowa State pretty good this week, but you know, it's always a big rivalry game and everybody always bashes pretty well. Visit it? Yeah, huge rivalry. Oh, I bet, I bet, especially at school now. Okay, so I know you're busy with school, I know you're busy with sports as well, Kenneth. What do you and the boys like to go do when you have a chance on the weekend? I know you have a little bit of free time every now and then what do you guys like to go do? Um, you know, when I'm not working on the weekends, you know, I usually like to go get something out to eat with them or like, you know, we just go to somebody's house and just hang out. Sure. And you just kind of find those other activities that just kind of make you create those bonds even better. I mean, even with your teammates too, you kind of just create those times and special moments to better improve. I mean, your friendship with everybody and keep everybody close, because you know, obviously it's my last year and then I might, I'm going to college, so might not be seeing these guys as much, so kind of got to live up every moment you can. Yeah, definitely going out to eat and all that stuff. Oh, that's fine. For sure. That's a good time. That's a good time. So I know we talked about the future and kind of what we may or may not want to do. Again, that's future Kinnick problems. Kinnick, where do you want to go? Do we have any ideas on colleges? Have we done any visits or anything like that so far? Um, I mean, I've been on many visits. I mean, I have offers from door in central right now for football, but I mean, I've been getting talked to like by a lot of schools like Co, Simpson. I mean, you can, I mean, UW, Platteville up in Wisconsin. I mean, there's, there's, I mean, most of the Iowa schools except the big three, you and I, Iowa and Iowa State have contacted me and I've made a trip or something that contacted with them, something like that. So, you know, my options are very vague right now, but I've, I mean, I've limited them down somewhat to the last 10 to five though. Cause that's something I start looking forward to, I'm looking towards do so on. Yeah, you know, I haven't really made a full decision yet, but those are kind of my, you know, the, the look, the place I'm looking at. Again, you don't got to make that today, but I'm super happy to hear you have some options. And, and I think we're going to wrap things up with you Kinnick. And I always ask my seniors one last question. So I'm going to put you on the spot as well. Can I give a senior or excuse me, if a freshman comes to you and says, Mr. Senior, I want to have a great four years at Mad Red. Give them some advice, Kinnick. What do you think you would tell them to do? Um, you know, I would kind of tell them classes wise what my sister told me. She told me to back up my first three years, get all the hard classes done, get all that stuff, get all the credits and all that crap. So then your, your senior year, I mean, you basically can just live it up, you know, and live your last year in high school and live it to the best in the fullest. I mean, with all your friends, I mean, right now I'm, I'm done with class and it's halfway through the day. And now I'm going to go hang out with my friends. I mean, just those little times and moments. I mean, you got to value those a lot more. And especially your last year, I mean, you can never take anything for granted, obviously like last year. I mean, there's, there's many things that I already know once I'm at a high school, they'll take for granted, but you know, I mean, there's so little I can do about that. I'm going to try to live up everything I possibly can. I mean, that's, that's what I would tell those kids. I mean, just live up every moment that you possibly can and don't take anything for granted. I would definitely say that's a big one. Kenic, great advice.
