Larry Swanson

OGDEN, Iowa—Larry Lee Swanson, 86, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away peacefully, at his home on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

A memorial service for Larry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden. Pastor Kimberly Belken will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden has been entrusted with arrangements. Larry Lee Swanson, son of Lloyd and Nellie (Dahl) Swanson was born on September 22, 1938. Larry grew up in Boxholm, Iowa and graduated from Boxholm High School. On July 25, 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Evelyn Anderson at Covenant Church in Pilot Mound, Iowa. To this union two sons were born: Tim and Terry.

Larry honorably served in the Iowa Air National Guard. While in the Guard, Larry was assigned to the protection detail of Nikita Khrushchev when he visited Garst Farm in Coon Rapids, Iowa.

Larry’s main vocation was as a General Contractor where he built and remodeled many homes in Ogden and the surrounding areas. He sang in the Pilot Mound Male Chorus, Habitat for Humanity Cantatas, and enjoyed performing and building sets for the Ogden Community Theater. Larry’s hobbies included, fishing, he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed other sports, going out for coffee with friends, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Ball; and two brothers, Rollin Swanson and Verle Swanson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn Swanson of Ogden, IA; two sons, Tim Swanson of Columbus, NE, Terry (Amy) Swanson of Johnston, IA; two grandchildren, Brent Swanson of Grimes, IA, and Rachel (Jack) Spear of Chicago, IL; brothers, Dwain (Dorothy) Swanson of Ankeny, IA, Bob Swanson also of Ankeny, IA, and Ken (Betty Jo) Swanson of Boone, IA; his sister, Yvonne (Lyle) Guhl of Plymouth, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorials may be left to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden, Ogden First Responders or the Ogden Lion’s Club in memory of Larry.
