Lorraine Madden, 82, Stratford, Iowa
STRATFORD, Iowa—Lorraine Joyce Madden, 82, passed away at her home in Stratford, Iowa Friday September 25, 2026. Lorraine was born on June 19, 1944, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Woodrow “Woody” Donald Cox and Alice Bernice Staley. She received her education in Boone and graduated from Boone High School. Lorraine married Darwin Madden at Marion Street Methodist Church in Boone on 01 August 1964. They made their home in Boone and later in Stanhope, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four daughters, Darla, Deana, Danielle and Shaunae. They were married 60 years, at Darwin’s passing in 2024. Lorraine then moved near her daughter Danielle outside of Stratford.
She worked at the Whistle Stop Café in Boone for 15 years and at the Iowa State Dinning Hall for 15 years which she retired from. Lorraine loved being around her family; children, grandchildren, great children, brothers, sisters, and nieces and nephews. She loved to cook and hosted many holiday meals at her home.
In addition to her husband Darwin, parents, and daughter Darla, Lorraine was proceeded in death by her brothers Charles “Chuck”, Doyle, Larry and sister Linda, and nephew Wade Cox. She leaves behind daughters Deana Williams, Danielle Madden and Brian Pribyl, and Shaunae and Jerry Overturf; grandchildren; Thayne/Shelby and Ty Vinchattle, Talynn McCormick (Reed) and Trevor Griggs, Tatum Heckman (Ryan), Tacie, and Trenton Overturf; great-grandchildren, Bailee Vinchattle, Madden and Leland McCormick, sisters Beverly and Jeff Huston and Vickie and Randy Treadway, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be hosted by Shannon Treadway Greer, Lindsay Treadway Crowe, and Nicohle Treadway Murphy on Monday, October 5 from 5-7pm at the Masonic Olive Lodge, 527 Marshall Street in Boone.
Memorial cards may be mailed to the funeral home in lieu of flowers.
