Madrid advances in playoffs with 33-0 victory

The Madrid football team topped Pekin, 33-0, on Friday, November 1, at Madrid in the second round of Class A playoffs.

The Madrid football team topped Pekin, 33-0, on Friday, November 1, at Madrid in the second round of Class A playoffs. 

The Tigers scored a touchdown in each quarter to take the victory.  

Madrid started off with a 48-yard run by Preston Wicker with 11:11 to go in the 1st quarter. 

Wicker then found Emerson Bridgewater for a 30-yard pass just before halftime to lead, 14-0. 

Wicker ran it into the end zone again in the 3rd quarter, scoring on a 2-yard run with 4:52 remaining. 

Madrid was up, 20-0, at the end of the 3rd quarter. 

In the 4th quarter, Wicker hit Bridgewater for a 29-yard pass. 

Later in the 4th quarter, Easton Halverson scored on a 1-yard run to cement a 33-0 victory. 

Wicker again led the Tigers in both passing and rushing. 

He went 5 for 9 passing for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns and also had 26 carries for 177 yards and another 2 touchdowns. 

For the running game, Halverson had 11 carries for 26 yards and 1 touchdown while Will Atkinson had 6 carries for 39 yards. 

Bridgewater had 2 receptions for 59 yards, both of which were touchdowns. 

Toryn Severson had 2 receptions for 19 yards, and Jake Sawyer had 1 reception for 38 yards. 

The defense was led by Atkinson with 5 tackles, including 2 solo tackles and 1 tackle for loss. He also had 1 sack. 

Sawyer, Bridgewater and Maxwell Morgan all recorded 4.5 tackles. 

Madrid improved its record to 8-2 and Pekin ended the year at 8-2.  

The Tigers travel to Lisbon (10-0) on Friday, November 8.
