
The Madrid baseball team defeated Collins-Maxwell, 5-2, Monday, July 6, in a Class 1A Substate 3 game at the North Polk Middle School baseball field.
The Tigers scored in four different innings, scoring one run in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and one more in the sixth to build a 5-1 advantage.
Collins-Maxwell got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and added another in the seventh, but Madrid held on to secure the postseason victory.
Kole Deppe led the Tigers offensively, collecting two hits while scoring two runs, driving in a run and stealing a base.
McCoy Cooley added a hit, while Kolbie Owens contributed a hit and scored a run.
Conner Pettiecord finished with a hit and an RBI.
Emerson Bridgewater and Brady Springer each drove in a run for Madrid, and Mason Morman scored a run.
Levi Kockler went the distance on the mound, earning the complete-game victory while striking out seven.
Madrid improved to 11-17 with the win, while Collins-Maxwell finished the season at 14-12.
The Tigers will continue postseason play against Ankeny Christian (26-5) at 7 p.m. tonight at the North Polk Middle School baseball field.
