The Madrid baseball team’s bats came alive late to secure a 10-6 victory over West Central Valley in West Central Conference play on Wednesday, June 4, in Madrid.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first, but West Central Valley responded with five in the top of the second to briefly take control.

Madrid chipped away with single runs in the third and fourth innings before erupting for five runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Emerson Bridgewater sparked the offense with two hits and three runs scored.

Eli Petersen also tallied two hits and crossed the plate once.

McCoy Cooley delivered a clutch performance with one hit, two runs scored, and three RBIs, while Kolbie Owens added a hit and drove in two.

Preston Wicker contributed with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

On the mound, Kole Deppe started the game and recorded three strikeouts.

Conner Pettiecord came on in relief and earned the win, striking out five to shut down the Wildcats in the late innings.

With the win, Madrid improves to 3-2 on the season, while West Central Valley drops to 2-3.

Madrid will look to keep the momentum going tonight as it hosts Van Meter (7-3) in a West Central Conference doubleheader starting at 7 p.m.
