The Madrid baseball team earned a split at the Estherville tournament Saturday, June 28, with a 10-6 win over West Sioux and an 8-5 loss to Estherville Lincoln Central.
In Game 1, Madrid bounced back from an early 4-run deficit with a 4-run second inning and added 6 more runs across the fourth and fifth to pull away.
Kole Deppe led the charge with a 4-hit performance, driving in 3 runs and swiping a base.
Emerson Bridgewater scored 3 times and added 2 RBIs, while Kolbie Owens chipped in with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Connor Pettiecord earned the win in relief, striking out 4 after Preston Wicker started the game and fanned 3.
Game 2 saw Madrid fall short against host Estherville Lincoln Central.
Owens stayed hot with another 2-hit game, while Pettiecord drove in 2 runs.
Wicker added 2 hits and a run, and Easton Halverson scored twice.
Deppe took the loss on the mound but struck out 7.
Madrid now sits at 6-13 overall and 3-11 in West Central Conference play.
They’ll look to build on their momentum tonight as they travel to face Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (8-11 overall, 5-10 conference) in a conference matchup at 7 p.m.
