The Madrid baseball team split its games Saturday, June 6, winning its opener before falling in the second game.

The Madrid baseball team split its games Saturday, June 6, winning its opener before falling in the second game. 

Game 1: Madrid 11, Des Moines North 1 

The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and a four-run third inning broke things open. 

Madrid followed with two runs in the fourth and another pair in the fifth to put the game out of reach. 

Kole Deppe tallied three hits, scoring two runs, and driving in two more.  

Emerson Bridgewater matched that production with three hits of his own, adding two RBIs and crossing the plate twice. 

Zach Newell also collected two hits and drove in three runs, while Cayden Loerzel chipped in with a hit, two runs scored, and an RBI. 

Newell earned the win while striking out six batters. 

Game 2: Estherville Lincoln Central 8, Madrid 5 

In the second game of the day, Madrid dropped an 8-5 decision to Estherville Lincoln Central. 

Deppe continued his strong performance with a hit, a run scored, and two RBIs.  

Conner Pettiecord added two hits and scored once, while Kolbie Owens contributed a hit and an RBI. 

Bridgewater got the start on the mound and struck out five. 

Madrid, now 5-2 on the season, returns to action tonight as it hosts Ogden (4-8).  

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
