The Madrid Tigers pushed their game against Interstate 35 to five sets before falling just short in a hard-fought West Central Conference matchup Tuesday, September 30, in Truro.
Madrid dropped the opening set 25-16 but quickly regrouped to take the next two — 28-25 in the second and 27-25 in the third.
I-35 responded with a dominant fourth set win, 25-12, setting the stage for a fifth set.
Madrid fought to the final point, but I-35 edged them out 16-14 to seal the match.
Madrid’s serving was a highlight, with the team hitting 90% from the line.
Jaela Hansen landed 6 aces on 17 of 18 serves, while Iyla Fine added 5 aces on 18 of 18, and Rylin Velky chipped in 4 aces on 14 of 15.
Fine led the offense with 15 assists, while Velky added 9 assists.
Samantha Springer powered the attack with 7 kills, followed closely by Savannah Bradley and Lauren Dvorak, who each tallied 6 kills.
On defense, Paige Richards anchored the back row with 22 digs, and Olivia Pudenz contributed 15 digs.
Lauren Dvorak and Hansen each recorded 3 blocks, helping slow down I-35’s offense.
Madrid now sits at 3-13 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The Tigers will look to bounce back tonight as they travel to face Central Decatur (4-12) in a non-conference matchup.
