The Madrid football team is heading back to the UNI dome for the Class A state football semi-finals as the Tigers beat Lisbon, 27-24. Friday, November 8, at Lisbon.
Madrid opened the game in the 1st quarter with a one-yard running touchdown by quarterback Preston Wicker.
Lisbon responded with a touchdown of their own to tie the game, 7-7 later in the 1st quarter.
Madrid came right back with a 5-yard running touchdown by Wicker to lead, 13-7, at the end of the first quarter.
The score remained 13-7 at the half.
Wicker had a passing touchdown in the third quarter, and Madrid extended the lead to 20-7.
Madrid scored again in the 4th quarter on a 11-yard run by Wicker to go ahead 27-7.
Lisbon did score a touchdown later in the 4th quarter, but it was not enough as Madrid secured the 27-14 victory.
Wicker was firing on all cylinders leading the offense in passing and rushing and the defense in tackles and fumble recoveries.
Wicker led the rushing with 222 yards on 28 carries for 3 touchdowns.
In addition, Easton Halverson had 11 carries for 52 yards and Will Atkinson had 6 carries for 7 yards.
Wicker also went 6 for 11 on passing for 100 yards and 1 touchdown.
Emerson Bridgewater had 3 receptions for 63 yards, and Toryn Severson had 2 receptions for 19 yards.
Jevyn Severson had 1 18-yard reception for a touchdown.
Defensively, Wicker led with 7.5 tackles, 6 of which were solo tackles, and 1 fumble recovery.
Terrin Lawrenson had 5.5 tackles, 3 of which were solo tackles, and Atkinson had 5 tackles, 3 of which were solo tackles.
Bridgewater and Toryn Severson each had 1 interception.
Madrid (9-2) will play West Hancock (11-0) at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.
The winner will play for the state championship.
