
The Madrid Tigers boys’ basketball team notched a double-overtime non-conference win over Creston, 64-58, Thursday, December 4, at Southwestern Community College Gymnasium in Creston.
The game was a back-and-forth battle from the start.
Madrid trailed 17-13 after the first quarter but surged ahead by halftime, leading 31-25.
The Tigers maintained a slim advantage through the third quarter, 43-37, but Creston rallied late to tie the game at 50-50 at the end of regulation.
After a tense first overtime that ended 56-56, Madrid pulled away in the second extra period to secure the win.
Jevyn Severson led the Tigers with a dominant performance, scoring 24 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
He also went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and added four assists and a steal.
Emerson Bridgewater chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, while Logan Bogardus scored nine points, including a three-pointer and two clutch free throws.
Kolbie Owens added eight points with a three-pointer and two assists.
Madrid 58, Panorama 50
Madrid returned home Friday, December 5, for its West Central Conference opener and defeated Panorama, 58-50.
The Tigers had to fight from behind early, trailing 19-12 after the first quarter and 31-28 at halftime.
Madrid closed the gap in the third quarter, entering the final period down just one point, 47-46.
A dominant fourth quarter sealed the comeback win.
Bridgewater scored 23 points, including three three-pointers and six free throws.
He also grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out five assists, and recorded three steals.
Severson matched him with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Max Fowler added seven points, while Owens contributed six rebounds and two steals.
With the win, Madrid improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Tigers will look to keep their perfect start alive when they host Eagle Grove (1-2) tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
